Confirming your identity

When you’re opening an account with us, we have to confirm your identity to make sure we’re opening the account for the right person. We do this through our security partner HooYu. This way, we can check you are you, while keeping your details completely safe and secure.

Why we use HooYu...

Why HooYu?

HooYu can quickly and safely verify people from all over the world using digital footprints, ID document authentication and facial biometrics. It’s not only safer, it also speeds up the application process meaning your account is opened faster.

Is this safe?

Yes. HooYu use a TLS encrypted connection to keep your data secure. They delete all copies of your documents as soon as the identity check is done.

Sharing information

As part of the verification process, we'll share your contact details with HooYu and they will share identity verification information with us.

Tips for uploading your documents

Struggling to upload the documents we've asked for? Check out our hints and tips to make sure that you have uploaded everything correctly.

Proof of identity

We may request photo ID in order to identify you for example a passport, driving licence or EU/EEA national ID card.

Please make sure when you upload your proof of ID that: 

  • All of your details (full name, date of birth) are clearly visible and match the details on your application.
  • It's in date (we can't accept expired documents).
  • It's the exact type of document we've requested.
  • The image is clear and good quality.
  • All four corners of the document are captured.
  • There is no visible reflection - you may need to move away from overhead lighting.

Proof of address

We may request a proof of address document in order to confirm your address for example a bank statement, council tax bill or utility bill.

Please make sure when you upload your proof of address that: 

  • All of your details (full name, address) are clearly visible and match the details on your application.
  • You upload a photograph of the original document - screenshots can't be accepted.
  • The image is clear and good quality.
